Best Car Air Purifier
Car air purifiers come in many shapes, sizes and forms. They can also work in many different ways too, below we introduce you to the car air purifier options you have, as well as reviewing a few that we think deserve it.
If you are wanting to improve the air quality in your car, or even fragrance the air slightly to better mask or remove odors then an air purifier for your car is exactly what you need.
We have been testing air purifiers in our micro campervan and car for a few weeks and we are very impressed with what they can do. Espeically in our camper which we use to make the odd cup of tea and small meals. If you find, like us, you eat a lot whilst on the road and in your car, an air purifier will definitely help the internal air situation and also improve your experience in the car as well.
Even without cooking anything, simply bringing food in to a car can cause unpleasant smells, especially if they linger for a day or two afterwards. If you bring in hot food from a fast food restaurant or a service station on the motorway, you'll have an even bigger chance of the smells lingering in your car and the air becoming stale with the foods smell.
As well as food items, your seating and other fabric areas in the car can have smells and other things cling to them, all adding to the bad air. Here are some different air purifier types that might work for you and your car, or even caravan or camper van and help improve the air quality inside.
Air Vent Air Purifiers
We review a couple of these, that sit in your cars air vents, as the air moves through, the vent, the filter and fragrances you put in to it will start to work, helping the car smell great and clean the air using its inbuilt filter. Air is actually passing through the filter so you know that it will be filtering. The downside to these types is that if you want a fragrance you will have to renew it's oils and fragrance every few weeks and that the filter used in them are not the thickest.
Plug In Air Purifier
You can also utilize a 12V car cigarette lighter and plug in an air purifier. "Air ionisers are used in air purifiers to remove particles from air. Airborne particles are attracted to the electrode in an effect similar to static electricity." They are then make them negative ions and as a result collect and remove the bad odor, bacteria or molecule from the surrounding area.
Charcoal Air Purifiers
Charcoal is a natural absorbant of odors and moisture which means having a charcoal bag, similar to that of kitty litter, in your car will help remove odors over time and keep the car free of moisture too, which tends to cling on to bad smells and other nasty things compared to a dry inner car.
The best car air purifier is the Purggo Car Eco Air Freshner made out of bamboo, hemp and charcoal. It's out favourite for a number of reasons.
It should last over a year, which compared to the others, is very very good. We prefer how it looks compared to the rest of the air purifiers. It sits behind a front seat by hanging over it's headrest. If you never have anyone in the rear seats, it will never be noticed and although it's bigger than the other air purifiers it still won't get in the way.
It is made of natural materials, uses bamboo charcoal inside to absorb odors and moisture. This is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet so is highly sustainable and when finished with can be put back in to the earth to compost. Not like some of the other filters or inserts your see on other air purifiers which are made of plastic or non plant based materials.
It looks the best out of the other air purifiers, like a mini pillow and should suit the interior of any car, caravan, van or camper. Once you finish with it as well, because of it's bamboo and hemp materials you can dispose of it safely without polluting the environment. So you not only get something that does a good job but doesn't pollute the earth once you have finished with it.
In second we have put the Coscod and Apalus car fragrance and perfume purifiers. They both would suit different interior cars and both reside in the air vent at the front of the car. Because air moves through them constantly you know that you are not just getting your air purified and cleaned but a nice fragrance will always pass through and in to the car, helping disguise and remove bad smells, odors, etc.
Because of their combined air purifier and fragrance options, you definitely feel like they are working, even after just a few hours in a car or a few days of small journeys. We brought chips and peas in from the chippy to eat as we sat near a beach and usually this smell hangs around for a day or two afterwards, but with these that smell was eliminated and it made for a much better place to be inside the car. This is definitely a good thing if you are planning on using your car and eating in it a lot or planning to sleep in your car at any time, having an air purifier will help tremendously.
It will also help if you hang clothes in the back of your car and mean that no bad smells get on to your clean clothes.
Our final review is that of the Frieq Fresh Air Ioniser. This looked like a very cool gadget, but it was hard to tell if it was working or not. You can read more about it below, but ioniser air purifiers are a big thing in asia and maybe that is something that we will start seeing more of and better technology as the market grows here in Europe and the UK.

Review of PURGGO Car Eco Air Freshner
This is a review of the PURGGO Car Eco Air Freshener
The PURGOO eco air freshener is a large bamboo charcoal pad that hooks onto the back of the driver or front passenger seat. It initially feels a little bulky to be an air freshener and attaching it to head rest could appear to be less desirable for your travelling back passengers. It could do with doubling up as a cushion with its size.
There are no diffusing chemicals, wires or charging requirements. It is as simple as taking int out of the little packet it comes in and swinging it into your car.
It doesn't need any essential oils but in the same way it doesn't produce any sweet fragrances. It's job is to eliminate bad odours from your car and provide it with a new freshness. You should get about 1 years worth out of the air freshener, I haven't had it that long to fully confirm that but what I can tell you is that after a few days it seems to eliminate bad odours such as dirt, damp dog smell and the occasional smoking passenger.
As the purifier uses sustainable materials such as bamboo and hemp is means that it is biodegradable and can be replaced without causing permanent waste to the planet. The overall design is much bigger than most other air fresheners however for the length of time you get out of it, its natural ability and neutral tones it is a surprisingly good air freshener.
- All natural
- No pluggins or chemicals
- Uses bamboo charcoal that naturally absorbs odour
- Well designed and made
- Neutral pastel tones
- Uses suistable materials
- Safe for use with passengers with asthma or allergies.
- Large in size
- Could be a nussience to back passengers
- Not next day delivery
The PURGGO Car Eco Air Freshener is an all natural product with a long life span, which personally I feel is difficult to beat considering we all want to be breathing in fresh non toxic air. It may be a little on the chunky side but if you drive your car with on yourself and maybe the occasional other passenger this isn't going to bother anyone.
Review of COSCOD Car Perfume Diffuser
This is a review of the COSCOD Car Perfume Diffuser
The COSCOD Car Perfume Diffuser is a small tree designed stainless steel locket. It comes in a flannel gift bag and eight different coloured refill pads. It doesn't come with the essential oils which I miss read when I bought this so make sure you either have some already or buy some additionally.
If you do already have some all you need to do is add about 5 to 10 drops to a pad, if you are changing the essential oil simply start using a new pad.

Review of Fresh Air Car Air Purrifier
This is a review of the Fresh Air Car Ionic Air Purifier
The Fresh Air Ionizer Car Purifier is a compact device that slots into the cigarette lighter (as the photo below shows taken by Fresh Air). It will then light up a blue LED and this will show that the purifier has started working. The main body of the unit is made from metal and at the top are a number of wires.
It uses an electronic ionization process to clean the air in your car. This releases large amounts of negative ions into the air that can effectively remove dust, pollen and smoke. It helps to reduce harmful or irritative bacteria in the air to sensitive noses especially those suffering from asthma or hay fever.
It starts to get to work and I would say you notice the difference after about 5 minutes. If in particular you are trying to get rid of cigarette smoke or bad odors. It will keep working continuously till you unplug it. As there are no single use filters that need replacing it helps to make this product environmentally friendly.
It is a nicely quiet device as there are no moving parts to make any sounds. At times you might wonder if its actually doing anything but it is most likely just quietly doing its thing in the middle of your car.
- Removes bad odors within seconds
- Environmenally friendly
- Uses modern ionization techniques to purify air
- Has a futuristic look
- Stylish design
- No filters to change
- Next day delivery with Amazon Prime
- Can sometimes be hard to tell if working
- Needs to be constantly charging
This is a futuristic, simple and environmentally friendly air purifier to use in your car.
