According to vitallaw.com, Kumho Tire Co., Inc. has initiated a recall of about 11,169 Solus TA11 tires sized 225/60R16 for a potential tread separation defect. The affected units were built at KTCI’s plant between January 21, 2021, and January 31, 2023.
Tread separation happens when the outer tread layer detaches from the tire’s internal structure. When that occurs at highway speeds, vehicle stability and handling can fall off rapidly, increasing the chance of a loss of control and a crash.
Kumho announced the recall on March 10, 2026, after an internal investigation concluded the tires may not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139. That standard sets safety requirements for new pneumatic radial tires on light vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration assigned the action identification number 26T009.
Kumho will offer affected owners a choice of remedies: a full refund of the original tire purchase price or a no-cost replacement tire. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed beginning May 3, 2026.
Production of the Solus TA11 in the listed size stopped on January 31, 2023. The company estimates roughly 10 percent of the recalled tires remain in use.
Vehicle owners who think they may have the recalled tires should verify their tires using the NHTSA recall lookup tool or by contacting Kumho directly. Check your tire sidewall for size and identifying marks, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions before driving on any suspect tire.
