The Hankook iON evo, a premium tire designed for electric vehicles (EVs), won the Auto Bild “Reifencheck” tire test (issue 14, April 5). The test compared three summer tires (size 245/45 R 19 102 Y) to evaluate performance, safety, and rolling resistance while maximizing range. According to Auto Bild, the iON evo successfully balanced safety, driving pleasure, range, and environmental considerations.
The iON evo excelled in braking tests on dry and wet roads, and had the best wet handling and lowest pass-by noise due to the “Hankook Sound Absorber™.” With a rolling resistance of just 6.21 kg/t, the lowest in the test, the tire offers increased range and outperforms competitors by around 30 kilometers. A 1 kg/t reduction in rolling resistance can increase the range by about 4%.
Hankook developed the iON tire family to address the growing demand for EVs and their specific tire needs, focusing on reduced rolling resistance, low-noise rolling behavior, and excellent driving dynamics. Klaus Krause, Head of the Hankook Europe Technical Centre, stated that the positive Auto Bild test result demonstrates the advantage the Hankook iON offers to EV drivers over conventional tires.
