According to https://www.autoblog.com/news/michelin-says-its-new-tires-can-increase-ev-range, Michelin has introduced two summer tire lines aimed squarely at the electric era: the Primacy 5 Energy and the Pilot Sport 5 Energy. Both are billed to improve EV range and lower fuel consumption for combustion and hybrid cars, while keeping performance and safety standards high.
The Primacy 5 Energy is a premium touring tire tuned for comfort and efficiency. Michelin says it achieves a Triple A rating for wet grip, energy efficiency, and external noise, and offers up to 10 percent more EV range, which the company quantifies as up to 70 km or 43 miles per charge. For combustion-engine vehicles the tire is claimed to cut fuel consumption by 6 percent, translating to savings of up to 169 or 147 and a CO2 reduction of 327 kg.
Michelin highlights several technical points for the Primacy 5 Energy: it delivers top-tier wet braking with 8 percent shorter stopping distances even when the tread is worn, and it promises 40 percent longer life than rival tires thanks to what Michelin calls Energy Passive 2.0 Technology. The line will be offered in 33 sizes from 16 to 19 inches, covering a wide swath of passenger cars, including electric models. The tire also carries an A rating for external noise, which should improve cabin comfort.
The Pilot Sport 5 Energy targets drivers who want performance without sacrificing efficiency. Drawing on motorsport-derived development, Michelin says the tyre combines A-rated rolling resistance with sustained performance at speeds up to 300 km/h. The company positions it as a choice for sporty hybrids and EVs where grip, handling, and reduced rolling resistance all matter.
Both tires are presented as responses to electrification demands that require lower rolling resistance but cannot compromise durability, handling, or wet-weather safety. Michelin says the new lines have already earned approvals from multiple major automakers.
Independent test data from DEKRA are part of Michelin’s case. DEKRA testing on a VW ID.3 reportedly confirmed the Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy deliver longevity advantages over competitors including the Bridgestone Turanza 6, Continental PremiumContact 7, Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2, and Pirelli Cinturato P7 C3.
Michelin also notes the market importance of summer tires, which account for about 80 percent of global tire sales. That market share helps explain why the company focused this launch on summer rubber tailored to electrified drivetrains.
Taken together, Michelin frames the Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy as balanced solutions that promise better efficiency, strong wet performance, and longer service life for the growing fleet of electrified vehicles. For buyers, the pitch is straightforward: improved range or lower fuel use, without giving up safety or performance.
