This is a review of the Silverline Digit Car Security Safe
The Silverline car security box is quite simple in design. To me it looks like a box that should contain a hearing aid or something that just needs a hard plastic case to protect it rather than a heavy duty box to protect your important items. With it being hidden though, that should help things if you were to put a passport or something similar inside.
The box measures 20 by 16 by 7 cm in size, similar to other car security safes we have tried out however this one is different in that it is half the weight at 725g. I feel this is evident in the thickness of the material of the steel and the locking system. It’s obviously not as durable or strong because it weighs less.
Inside you could fit a lot, I managed to get my passport, camera, credit card and keys into it, there is a soft grey textured lining to the box to protect the valuables too. What however does not protect the valuables is the fact that with a good screwdriver I was able to pry the box a little, this says to me it wouldn’t take much more force to literally pull it fully open which is disappointing.
It is well thought out, simple and looks good and even has the metal wire tether so that you can lock it to something in your car but is let down by this security feature. The only reason you can get a screwdriver in there is because the locking mechanism has a little bit of play and there is nothing hiding the gap around the safe box.
Pros & Cons
- Lightweight and durable
- 3 number combination locking system
- Soft interior to protect valuables
- Easy to use
- Available for next day delivery with Amazon Prime
- Some difficulty changing the combination number
- Not the most secure could be prised open
- Lacking strength and robustness
Conclusion & where to buy
This is a cheap and cheerful car safe it will work well as a visual deterrent but what it lacks is strength so if someone wants to take your valuables with enough force they could do so as it doesn’t have the best locking mechanism.
